Hope FULL

The 2023 Bristol Women's Conference will take place on Saturday 4th March, with speaker Anna Putt speaking to us from the book of 1 Peter.

We are delighted to have an exciting range of seminars for women across the age range, reflecting on the past couple of years and looking to how God might be using those experiences into the present and future.

The conference is held at St Brendan's Sixth Form College, Broomhill Road, Brislington, BS4 5RQ.

Main Speaker: Anna Putt

Anna is married to Tom who is a vicar in Burford. She is mum to three young (ish) children and spends her 'spare' time on various pieces of work both voluntary and paid including being a supply teacher, a trustee of Keswick Ministries, a podcaster @shieldedbygrace, a broadcaster on Radio 4's Daily service and a few other projects.

She enjoys walking her dog in the beautiful Cotswold countryside and studying the Bible with her lovely group of women.

We look forward to hearing Anna speaking from the book of 1 Peter.

Seminars

Alongside the main talks there are two seminar slots during the day – one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Below are the options available this year – all are single standalone sessions. You will need to select your top 4 choices of seminar (or afternoon Time Out) at the time of booking. (If booking for others, you will need all their choices too!) We try to allocate your top 2 choices while spaces are available.

1) Parenting Teenagers

In a crazy and depraved world a Christian mother has a great deal to offer a teenager in terms of stability, sense and downright joy. Come to this seminar to discover how parents of teenage children can go about their business with confidence rather than fear.

2) Pastoral Care: Not just for pastors

Individuals in our church family are facing challenges, big and small, all the time. Caring for these people surely cannot be the responsibility of only one or two pastors. In this seminar we will explore the bigger picture of pastoral care and where we fit within it. Prepare to be surprised, challenged, motivated…

3) Looking In and Looking Up

As you try and live for Jesus, do you find your self esteem is still bound up in what you achieve? Do you struggle to believe that God isn’t even just a little bit disappointed with you? Come and get stuck into Galatians with me, letting God probe our works-driven hearts whilst revealing to us his wonderfully gracious one.

4) Inclusivity

God's family is people from every tribe, tongue and nation. But what does that mean for your local church family? Everyone is talking about inclusion, but what will make inclusion in the church better than what the world offers?

5) Singing in a Time of Sorrow

When our lives are falling apart, or we are struggling with the daily grind, it’s hard to come to church and sing with joy. It is important to rejoice in God and His unshakeable goodness at all times. But the Bible has more than songs of rejoicing. Biblical lament is crying out to God in sadness and distress from a place of brokenness, whether brokenness of our sin or our circumstance, or both. Come and hear from Abi at Emu Music about what the Bible has to say about singing in sadness and our secure hope in a good God.

6) Then Sings My Soul

"Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!" (Psalm 147:1) Join Abi from Emu Music for a session of music, singing and storytelling. Abi will share some songs from Emu's recent and upcoming albums, as well as the thinking that went into them. It’s a chance to reflect, sing, and dig deeper into the lyrics of the songs, and an opportunity to learn some new songs for your local church!

7) Who is my Neighbour?

Through Jesus’ teaching about the Good Samaritan in Luke's Gospel, we will explore how we are called to care in today’s ‘global neighbourhood’, with particular attention given to the current refugee crisis.

8) Menopause: Standing firm in the middle of change

The menopause can leave women feeling hurt, confused and alone. Join us to discuss what’s happening, why it’s hard and how we can turn to Christ for real hope and help.

9) Difficult Relationships

Friendships, families, churches - relationships can be hard work! We know we should be patient and forgiving, but is this possible when we've been really hurt or frustrated by another?

10) Conversations that go somewhere

How do we move from small talk to intentional conversations? Is it simply about mindset, skill, practice or personality? Come and be encouraged by the Bible’s wisdom on this!

11) God is holy, so what?

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. But what does God’s holiness mean for how we relate to him? In this seminar we will look at what the Bible says about the holiness of God and see how grasping that truth will lead us to trust him

12) Flourishing in Singleness

Whether you're single or married, engaged or widowed, this seminar helps to think through how to make our own lives and our churches places where single people can thrive.

13) Time Out

Spend the afternoon session in the cafe, browsing the bookstall or taking time out to reflect/pray
